RUNWAYS END SCOUT ACTIVITY CENTRE

is Blackwater Valley's District Headquarters, Campsite, Activity Centre 
and so much more... 

 The Runway's End Scout Activity Centre is ideal for orienteering and wide games.

Runway's End Scout Activity Centre is located just off the A325 approximately 1.5 miles from the centres of 
Farnborough and Aldershot. 

It is staffed and maintained by a Management Committee formed by Scout Members and Volunteers from within the Blackwater Valley District. 

The 9-acre site is surrounded by open woodland owned by the Army, which is ideal for orienteering 
and wide games.


Wharf Copse
The Copse has a small cabin and ground for small camps. 
In the near future there will be a modular building put on site 
adjacent to the copse.

There is a track for Pedal cars also on this site.
Facilities

Climbing Tower

Located on site is a 30ft climbing tower, with 3 colour-coded routes - easy, moderate and hard - and an abseiling face. 
There is also a traversing wall to practice on while the main climbs are in use. 

The tower is floodlit for evening use and stands in its own enclosure allowing it to be secured when not in use.

 

Air Rifle Range
The 6-target air rifle range is located near the climbing tower. It is shuttered to 
allow the safe engagement of targets at 20ft and has a range hut to seat 
and shelter waiting fires. The range is also floodlit for evening use.

Archery Range
An archery range can be set up on the grassed activity area behind the DHQ building, with a large safety area at the rear.

Caving
The unique caving experience chamber is constructed in an old air raid shelter 
on site. It features a central chamber and crawls over a multitude of different 
routes on two levels.

Activity Area
This includes a zip wire, and various team building items, ie. stepping stones, 
rope swing, climbing net etc.

Pioneering
Poles, ropes and other pioneering materials are available for troop projects. 
There is a designated aerial runway site.

Campfire
The Talavera Campfire Circle is tiered and seats 300. 
It was constructed in early 1997 by the Royal Engineers of Talavera Squadron as part of their training and community involvement projects. It provides an atmospheric setting for campfires of all sizes.

Activity Area
The grassed activity area is ideal for football, rounders and other team games. It can be floodlit for evening activities.

Chapel
Kumbaya is the small open-air chapel located in a quiet, secluded corner of 
the site. It has log benches and wooden lecterns, and is ideal for a Scout's Own.

DHQ Building
Runway's End is home to the District HQ of the Blackwater Valley District. 
The DHQ building was purpose built in 1991. It has a main hall that can seat 60 
for dinner, has a skittle alley, dartboard and licensed bar, a veranda and patio 
with a brick BBQ, and has 3 meeting rooms, large kitchen and toilets and 
showers including facilities for the disabled.

Camping Field
The camping field is 4.5 acres capable of camping 300 people, in varying sizes 
of sites, with a large activity area for games. There are chemical toilets situated 
on the site for night time, and a large trailer on Wharf Copse for day use. 
There are also 2 shower cubicles. There is also a water point and wood pile.

Canoeing
The Basingstoke Canal is only 500m from Runway's End, which is ideal for 
canoeing and other water activities such as rafting and angling. Up to 8 
canoes are available for hire.

Activity Award
Anyone successfully completing seven of the activities available at Runway's End qualifies for our special Activity Award.

Scout Shop
RESAC is home to the District Scout Shop, which stocks a wide variety of 
goods including uniforms, badges, books, camping equipment and souvenirs. 

The shop is open weekly at the following times:
Thursday 7-9.30pm
Friday 7-9.30pm
Saturday 10am-1pm

Directions

If approaching from the M3, leave the motorway at Junction 4 and follow signs 
for Aldershot and/or Farnborough Aerospace Centre along the A331 (A3011) 
until you arrive at the Queens Roundabout by the Forte Hotel. Go over the roundabout and then follow signs for 'Scout Activity Centre'. If approaching from Farnham, follow the A325 North. RESAC is off to the left of the dual carriageway, signed to 'Scout Activity Centre'.
